Ian Duncan is the Emeritus Chair in Animal Welfare at the University of Guelph’s Poultry Welfare Research Group and a former president of the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada. Dr. Duncan specializes in turkey welfare, and works with industry to help develop industry standards for the treatment of farm animals. Dr. Duncan also works with groups to help develop welfare certification programs. He is one of the top authorities on farm animal welfare in Canada.
Geoff Urton is a farm animal welfare specialist with the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Urton has a master’s degree in animal welfare science and has been with the SPCA for a decade, focusing on advocacy and policy, as well as advancing the standards for animal welfare from a science-based approach. Urton wrote the current turkey standards for the group’s SPCA-Certified labelling program. He also works with industry to develop national standards and codes of practice for the treatment of animals on farms.
