How to handle telemarketers

If you're getting annoying telemarketing calls, know your rights. Register your phone number on the National Do Not Call List.

If you've already registered on Do Not Call list and still receive calls, ask the telemarketer to put your phone number on their internal Do Not Call list. By law, you can request to have your number put on the company's DNC list. This may help to stop the calls.

If you're still getting the calls, report the call centre/company to the CRTC. Try to get as much information from the call centre as possible so you can report them to the CRTC. Some telemarketers give out fake company names, addresses and phone numbers. Still, ask as many questions and keep reporting it to the CRTC.

You may also consider filing a complaint with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or Competition Bureau.
