My sympathies go out to the Bentley's but how many families ended up in the same situation before the GPS. I wonder how much time was not on the road in the days when we used a road map on our knee. I use a GPS and find it much easier to use than reading a map. Use "common sense" while driving and using your GPS.
Did anybody at CBC do any QA, the above video drove me nuts because the audio was only coming through the left speaker. A show about product and service quality can't do its own work properly, how do i trust you to talk about others?
Last January when GPS were new toys I saw a driver drive through an intersection with traffic lights, stop, tap som commands on his windshield mounted GPS, backup and make a left turn. Apparently he missed his urn and was concentrating on the GPS and not traffic conditions. GPS can kill and has done so.
I saw the ad for this episode and really want to say, contrary to what others say, I find using a GPS to help make my drive less stressful. When driving at night or an unfamiliar place, I can concentrate on watching the traffic and keeping up with the flow, instead of trying to remember the route, slowing down to check street signs, watching for street signs. Those are dangerous distractions. If you use the GPS as intended, enter your destination before you start and check the route planned before you start the car, then I see it as a safety aid. Like any other item, responsible people will use things responsibly and others will not. We could ban cars, after all, in some hands they are dealy weapons. It would make as much sense.
Here we go again. This is just another way for the government to come in and apply more tax grabs...of course picked up and distributed through the various police departments. Soon, the government will start telling us and attempt to convince us, we can no longer have passengers in our vehicles and hold a conversation, as it's a distraction.
This whole matter is bullshit, and should be treated as such and nothing less. I do agree with the cell phone ban, especially when you consider the idiots who think they can text and still maintain control of their vehicle; but distraction is something that surrounds us minute to minute on a daily basis. Think of the hundreds of distractions we witness outside our vehicles.
The various government agencies along with law enforement departments are trying to grab as much money from all of us, and most of the time this could be done without them going after funds to to ease their fiscal screw-ups.
I say enough is enough.....let's start to say NO, we will not except that!
