Below are the results and methodology of the poll featured in the GPS Distraction report. Interestingly, a very high percentage of people (92 per cent) say they program their GPS in their car before setting out on a journey – which is the recommendation by experts -- yet almost half say they end up programming it while they drive. Six per cent say they always program while driving, and 41 per cent say they "sometimes" program while they drive. We defined “programming while driving” as finding points of interest (restaurants, gas stations), or changing destinations while driving (entering an address).
CBC Research worked closely with the Marketplace team to design the questionnaire for the survey. The survey was conducted between December 1 and 4, 2009 among a total of 500 adult aftermarket GPS device users. Research Now, a market research firm, was commissioned to conduct the data collection phase of the research.
A sample of 500 produces overall results that can be considered accurate to within +/- 4.4%, 95% of the time.
It is important to note that the margin of error for specific demographic groups will vary depending on the sample sizes.
