t was a story that featured one of Marketplace's most unforgettable interviews, and some extraordinary health claims to match.
Bill Nelson, the inventor and distributor of EPFX — Electro Physiological Feedback Xrroid — claimed that his machine could help almost any disease. It's a device that's sold around the world, including Canada.
The EPFX, as Marketplace revealed, is also licenced by Health Canada as a medical device for use as a biofeedback device for stress reduction.
But is that still the case?

I heard about this device only yesterday, from a practitioner who was trying to sell me on this wonder diagnostic/ therapeutic tool, in the hope that I, as a medical doctor would form a partnership with her to have patients refered between us. It all sounded so wonderful I actually thought I may start myself on some treatment, perhaps I could get a non pharmacologic solution to my sleeping issues; so I decided to do some research today, then I find your website, among others.
I'd just like to say, having read about Bill Nelson's dubious credentials, and actually watched him perform (Is he a tranvestite or what),it's rather difficult for me to trust any so called invention from someone whose very presentation does not inspire in me any confidence. The decorum you'd expect from such a highly educated person is, totally lacking.South Africa is now being scammed!
I have Degenerative disk disease and for 15 days I went to the physiotherapist and the results were good but didn’t last . Every time I did some light cleaning around the house next day I have to stay in bed because of back pain.
Somebody offer me the possibility to try this biofeedback machine and after 4 sessions I’m ok and I can again function normal.
I don’t know if the EPFX is scam or not but after so many billions of dollar invested in “cancer industry” without any noticeable improvement,
somebody’s children, parent, relatives still dies and so everyone else hopes; this make you wander …….
Facts : 1920 Dr. Frederick Banting discovered Insulin – treatment for diabetes - continues to save millions of lives world-wide.
1929 Dr. Fleming discovered Penicillin
What do you think, did they had present technology an billion of dollars to sustain their research?
What about this?
I suspect some of the people trying to defend this scam have dropped cash into the machines and want to continue selling 'treatments'.
I'm actually amazed that the Health Canada acted so quickly after the show aired. At the same time, I'm disappointed that it took a investigative news show to wake them up to this scam even after the USA saw it for what it was and banned it down there.
And what a disgusting scam it is, preying on people when they are most vulnerable and desperate with serious illnesses like cancer.
Let's see...
1)A claim of a tumor falling out of someone's body.
2)He's asked in the full video to provide scientific proof, and he sends a box of testimonials. ohhh I believe now!
3) claim to curing almost all aiments including Aids,
Hepatitis, cancer, ect, but won't do anything for acme.
4) A machine that's been marketed with many different names, built inside a box measuring much less than a square foot, with components that are without a doubt much less in cost, that an average PC, and yet retails for over $20,000 dollars?! And has to be hooked up to a laptop that is probably in reality worth more parts-wise? WAKE UP PEOPLE! I cannot believe that some of you are actually defending this machine! ... We've come a long way since the belief of the world being flat. That's the worst analogy ever! WAKE UP!
I recently had a friend of mine report on a session involving the EPFX machine, he said it was the most unbelievably pathetic attempt at diagnosing his stress levels ever. The "results" showed he should undertake basic "healthy living" practices to see an improvement in his somewhat "over-stressed" nature.
I have since done research on the machine (And it's crack-pot of inventor) and have found this to be one of the largest scams going.
I feel sad that people are actually conned into trusting... his ridiculous claims. To prey on the sick is the lowest form of deception, you are taking someone's fears and insecurities and turning them into profit for yourself whilst tricking them into believing you are helping. It is sick.
Well done MarketPlace on busting this scam wide open in Canada, I will be working to get this machine banned in Australia too
Anybody have proof / links that show these devices were banned in USA or Canada?
Just saw Bill Nelson and his new machine. I bought a different one from him 20 yrs ago and paid 40,000$
It is called "The Eclosion" . It was marketed as a diagnistic tool. I still have it, although I haven't used it in 10 years.
Such a character, mentally unbalanced I would suggest..
I am glad to seei that Health Canada is professional enough to answer to the people of Canada... oh wait they didn't respond. So it kinda makes you wonder who is looking out for Canadan interests. We seem to be the biggest suckers for these types of scams and no body stands up for us. Ok maybe they didn't have an answer right away but follow up on it.
Good job market place.
I am proud to live in Canada and i am very proud we have programs like market place exposing some of the many frauds that occur in Canada... Thank you for your hard work.
Wake up people I challenge this machine and the results is any one that operates or sells this machine willing to take me up on this challenge ... it is impossible for this machine to work and I would like to see documented prof of any results from this device.
any company out there that takes advantage of the weak the sick and the dieing should all be locked away for a long time.
So lets go I will fly any where on my own dime and i am willing to see if this device can do anything. Any takers?
Thank goodness Health Canada has banned the EPFX. I wonder why Bill Nelson is dressed as a woman?
Rob: I didn't say this device would have any effect on existing cancer, did I? Studies from countries worldwide have been around for 30 years, clearly showing that the only real increases in survival link directly to how early the cancer was detected, or to the cancer being a rare form. Actual efficacy of treatment for general cancers has not increased meaningfully. I don't know where you get your stats, but if you believe that, you're the one who has no idea what they're talking about. There is still no clear link between reducing the size of a tumor with poison or radiation and extending life. If you think chemo and radiation are the way to go, you're right where the medical system wants you to be.
Ban the EPFX?
Sirs
Re the EPFX
To test the functions of the E{PFX and to understand what it is doing you first need to have some understanding of Quantum physics.
You cannot in the first place use exact / pure science to test what is going when using a device that is made to function within the field of quantum physics.
I am not going to bore you with what quantum physics is etc if you are smart enough you will look it up to get some underrating.
To boldly announce “ We measured the out put and it only produces 6 volts and that won’t do anything to help anyone “
Is a statement made by a fool? The person making it may we have been an MD so he is a DR fool.
It is not voltage that delivers the therapy such devices generate to treat, it is if Frequencies and what the frequencies carry ( the information ). Ask DR Fooll to put an oscilloscope on the device and he will see that there is much more gojg on than voltage.
One sided reports on such a device do the community a disservice . Hopefully there those among us that fully understand the bias of reports and reporters and the need to sensationalise and discredit the tall poppies among us.
Let me say this. “ Nobody on this planet has died or become ill after a session on and EPFX. Seven hundred and fifty thousand people died in America last year due to wrongly proscribed rugs, unnecessary surgery and downright carelessness” Now let me ask you this “ When are you going to attack the” killing profession “of allopathy “ let see the public fully warned about what ca happen to them when they attend a DRs surgery or submit to surgery. Oh I forgot you are a news media group and you simply wouldn’t do that. I wonder why. Oh I know it won’t sell news stories it won’t sell newspapers it wont get the reporter nationwide fame and further it is would be honest and true.

oh, and GV, cancer survival rates have doubled in the last 30 years. i highly, highly, highly doubt very subtle bursts of electricity can have any effect whatsoever on constantly mutating cells. by the way you talk, i hope everyone else can tell that you have no idea what you're talking about.
This was an important report in the interest of public safety. What I found most objectionable was the fact that Bill Nelson cleverly disguised the truth of his deceptive placebo with language designed to fool the public. He either created new words altogether, or 'borrowed' the language of legitimate natural medicine. He provides 'research' done legitimately with respect to natural medicine and rides on the coat tails of it all claiming the research validates his own device.
It's not that we aren't clever enough to realize a paradigm shift in the direction of subtle energy, or the right to take responsibility for our own health using natural medicine to do so. On the contrary - it is precisely because we are a perceptive society that we can discern the difference between what is real and what is bogus.
EPFX has 5 mili-volts.
If you read about Dr. Hulda Clark, her zapper is just the same as EPFX. Her advise is to use a 9-volt battery and 2 copper pennies or 2 copper pipes. You should attach electric wires to the Plus and Minus of the 9-volt battery and tape each penny or copper pipe at the end of each wire, there you go, a home-made EPFX or zapper.
I think the 9-volt battery has more charge than 5 mili-volts. And it cost less than 10$.
Folks keep saying that CBCs coverage of this slanted, I disagree, watch the video clip. The gentelman that is making the claim that "the tumor fell of her back and shattered on the floor". That's quite the claim, wheres the proof? Wheres the years of research that any other medical devices and drugs have to go thought? Wheres the peer review papers ?
EPFX dosent work, Period, I dare any one to come up with real proof not just doubtful claims.
Market Place has taken away no ones "right to choose", people will always get ripped of, all Market Place is doing is trying to protect those with no common scene.
we have technology to see and measure EMFs in many scientific applications, we can measure the emfs coming from a fridge motor to a fruit fly and even sensitive enough to measure emfs on a cellular level. this is a well documented science, that is used everyday in many technical applications, yet when it comes to alternative health, suddenly EMFs dont exist !!
if you were to grab hold of a car battery you have a sudden realization that we are electro chemical beings! and we are very much influenced by the electro magnetic fields around us. all this machine does is send electrical pulses into you at a micro level, to influence and correct your electro magnetic fields that are out of alignment.
I am absolutely blown away that cbc is trying to get biofeedback banned, go after after the tobacco industry, they kill millions a year. very hypocritical to allow cigs and persecute the harmless.
The world was flat some hundred years ago. It could cost you your life to say different.
We are electro magnetic as long as we are alive. The idea to use the electromagnetic field to influence and test is not that stupid. Sad new ideas get so little support. Give the unknown the benefit of the doubt. It is so easy to use science to shoot down new ideas. Science is not that good at providing solutions. Just look at cancer.
A customer using SCIO may not be cured, but he will have hope and no pain and suffering from treatments, and it cost very little. Traditional medicine is costly and often painful, and no guarantee for success. Let the systems compete as we do in other fields of life. BUSTED is a dirty way to eliminate competition.
Erica Johnson,
Good work putting Bill Nelson and his bogus machine out of business in Canada.
I did what I could to help expedite the situation by writing both the Minister of Heath and my local MP questioning how it got Health Canada approval in the first place.
I suspect the comments supporting the EPFX were written by non other than Bill Nelson himself, as it would appear indicative of an attempt to put on a strong offence where no defence exits.
You, Wendy and the others keep pointing out the incompetencies and inconsistencies in the way things are done in Canada. I try but unfortunately lack the vehicle you enjoy.
Market Place gave some erroneous information about the EPFX in the U.S. There is no longer any ban on the EPFX in the U.S. It was removed a number of months ago. Yet Market Place still referred to the U.S. ban on Friday's show.
"Market Place" designed to shift the market in their own direction therefore taking away the right to choose.
The idea of energetic medicine is a paradigm shift for an oncologist or the technician who measured the electrical output, so it should be no surprise that both of these people dismiss the device. I still feel that Marketplace was incredibly one-sided. What about positive feedback and/or results from patients? Does Marketplace and/or Health Canada have the right to refuse or influence their access to this modality? Should technology move along at such a pace that in 5, 10, or 20 years we accept energetic medicine at extremely subtle levels, how many opportunities to help someone will have been lost? Can we expect an episode in the future that takes such a biased look at the many fallacies of conventional western medicine, such as massive increases in spending against cancer, yet no better overall rates of survival or cure in the last 30 years?
