Bay of Fundy Turbine / Remembrance Day responses
November 12, 2009 9:02 AMEvery day, the force of gravity drags the huge mass of water in our oceans around the planet, and sends waves crashing onto our shores. The Bay of Fundy has some of the highest, and most powerful tides on the planet.
Several groups want to harness that power. The first of three massive turbines is lowered into the waters of the Bay. It's part of a test to see just how much power might be generated from those tides. We chat with the CBC's Mary Munson who was there to witness the event. She is the senior producer for the CBC television program, Land and Sea. The show has been following the progress of this project for an upcoming documentary about tidal power.
We also hear a moving first-hand account of being injured in battle from 29 year old Bombardier Adam Boutilier. He was the special guest at the Remembrance Day ceremony in Marion Bridge, Cape Breton. In February, a roadside bomb broke both of his legs, and blew off part of one foot. After more than a dozen surgeries though, he's able to walk again.
