Panel Discussion on the Economy
We Maritimers are in an interesting position. We still have a commodities-based economy, fishing, forestry, mining - that relies almost entirely on exporting.
But we have a strong manufacturing sector that not only contributes billions to the region's GDP, it also pays some of the highest salaries.
Both sectors have ALREADY been taking a huge hit from the high dollar and soaring fuel costs.
Now they're facing world-wide recession and a credit crunch like we've never seen before.
We invited three people into the studio to help us make sense of it all.
David Plante is the vice-president for Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, in New Brunswick.
Dr Lars Osberg is the chair of economics at Dalhousie University.
And Ted Boutilier is the co-owner of Future Seafoods in Fernwood, near Badeque, Prince Edward Island.
