Language Warriors
What it would be like if the language you learned to speak as a child, the language of your parents and grandparents - disappeared within your lifetime?
That's a real possibility for Mi'kmaq and Maliseet...unless a small core of native speakers can make a difference.
This week Maritime Magazine brings you two stories about Language Warriors.
The CBC's Phlis McGregor travels to Chapel Island, Cape Breton where former chief Lyndsay Marshall, and his family, are working to keep the Mi'kmaq language alive.
And CBC Fredericton's Myfanwy Davies brings us a profile of Imelda Perley, who has devoted her adult life to recording and promoting Maliseet.
