Don Messer had Canadians listening and watching his show in unprecedented numbers by the mid 1950's.
"Singalong Jubilee" started as his summer replacement in 1961, and it opened those ears to new sounds and new talent. Performers on the show sang folk songs collected by Helen Creighton, they covered popular tunes of the day, they offered spirituals, re-interpreted country music, and flirted with jazz and rock and roll.
Singalong did it all in an authentic and innovative way, even incorporating music videos as far back as 40 years ago.
In our documentary, Bill Langstroth, Catherine McKinnon, Lorne White and Penny McAuley recall for us the great fun, and the considerable accomplishments of "Singalong Jubilee".
