Jayme Armstrong

So Long, Farewell - July 27, 2008

When not onstage, Jayme can be found at Starbucks or walking her rescued Burmese Mountain dog, Amy, in one of Vancouver's dog parks. Despite wanting to become a jockey as a child, Jayme's stage career has led her across Canada and the United States, performing on stages including Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. Jayme starred in the Hollywood production of Ruthless! The Musical and received the LA Weekly Award for Outstanding Comedy Performance. In 2006, she spent the season at the Stratford Festival, appearing in Oliver! and South Pacific.

Recently, Jayme organized and performed in a cancer benefit concert at Vancouver's Stanley Industrial Alliance Theatre. The sold-out event was in honour of Jayme's mother, Carleen, who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and proceeds went to the BC Cancer Foundation.

Much to her brother's dismay, Jayme watched The Sound of Music daily during her childhood. When her favourite song, "The Lonely Goatherd" would come on, Jayme's mother would be on hand to rewind the tape until she had the chance to act out every role in the number. How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? has been a surreal experience for Jayme and she's pleased to have the opportunity to learn from the other talented finalists.
