Island Peak is one of the most popular 'trekking' peaks in the Himalayas.  It's not a difficult climb and once at the summit, climbers are rewarded with a stunning view of nearby mountains. Everest is a mere 10 kilometres away but blocked by the massive wall Lhotse towering above.

Most people begin to feel the effects of altitude sickness at 6000 metres. It can become deadly at 8000 metres.
