Riding Profile:

This riding first existed in the 1958 election. It was eliminated in 1981 and re-established in 1990. It has been NDP since then. This is a central Winnipeg riding, bounded by Isabel/Elgin/Gertie in the east, Cumberland/Wellington in the south, CNR Oak Point (south of Notre Dame) and Brookside Blvd. (north of Notre Dame) in the west. The northern boundary runs east along Oak Point Hwy./Walsall/Manitoba/Keewatin/CPR Main Line.

The population in 2001 was 20,095. The average family income was $41,456 with an unemployment rate of 9.1 per cent. The major industry was manufacturing (27.5%) followed by health and social services (11%).
