Bonnie Mitchelson (PC)
The riding has existed since 1981, and has elected PC Bonnie Mitchelson since 1986. River East is a fairly affluent riding created in the 1978 redistribution. It is in the northeast corner of Winnipeg, running from the Red River in the west to the point formed by the city limits and Springfield Road in the east, and from the city limits in the north to the city limits and Springfield in the southeast and southwest.The population in 2001 was 19,610. The average family income was $71,728, with an unemployment rate of 3.9 per cent. The leading industry in the riding was manufacturing (12.4%) followed by retail, and health and social services (12.1% each).
