Christine Melnick (NDP)
Melnick is the minister of water stewardship.
The riding has existed since the 1969 election. The Red River runs along the western portion of its southern border, and forms all of the western and part of the northern boundary. The rest of the northern boundary is West Fernwood/Dakota/Bishop Grandin, and the remainder of the south border is Novavista. The Seine River forms the eastern boundary.The population in 2001 was 19,150. The average family income was $72,058, with an unemployment rate of 4.7 per cent. The main industry was health and social services (13.7%) followed by retail (12.1%).

|1969||PC Donald Craik, first elected in St Vital in 1966, defeated NDP James Buchanan by 56 votes. He was re-elected in 1973 and 1977.|
