Riding Profile:

The riding has existed since 1981 and it has always been NDP. It's in the northeast part of Winnipeg, bounded by Dunrobin/Antrim Road to the north, Molson/Panet to the east; Thomas/Tyne to the south and Watt Street to the west.

The population in 2001 was 19,975. The average family income was $45,914, with an unemployment rate of 6.4 per cent. The major industry was manufacturing (20%) followed by health and social services (11%).

2003 Gary Doer defeated PC Conor Lloyd by 3,515 votes.
1999 Doer defeated PC Paul Murphy by 3,993 votes.
1995 Doer defeated PC Murphy by 2,982 votes.
1990 Doer defeated PC Vic Rubiletz by 2,651 votes.
1988 Doer was elected leader of the NDP party in Manitoba and defeated LIB Barbara Blomeley by 754 votes.
1986 Doer defeated PC Brent Aubertin by 1,841 votes.
1981 Peter Fox, elected in Kildonan in 1969, 1973, and 1977, ran in this new riding and defeated PC Scotty McVicar by 2,747 votes.
