Former card-carrying Tory

I plan to vote for the NDP.
Here's why:

1. Harry Enns has FINALLY retired in my riding (Lakeside) and I think the NDP stand a chance now. (I have, in the past, been a card-carrying Tory - but no longer - read on.)

2. I believe, from observation, that Gary Doer is not only a good premier, but a statesman as well. His measured, intelligent response to 9/11 was excellent. His handling of the economy of our province, while trying to balance the books and clean up the mess that the slash-and-burn Tories left, has been admirable. He does have a few loose canons in cabinet, maybe a larger NDP win will provide him with a better group to choose from.

3. I was a witness at the Monnin inquiry. I was then totally dismayed and shocked when Stuart Murray hired Taras Sokolyk as a consultant to the party. Does the man not follow the news? Have advisers? Have some common sense? And he wants to be Premier? What can we expect? Allan Aitken put in charge of Elections Manitoba?

4. I feel we need to be socially conscience. We have placed too many changes squarely on the shoulders of the less fortunate, with the battle cry of "reducing the deficit." I trust the NDP will attempt to do this, although they could do a better job of it.

Those are the reasons I will vote NDP in this election.
