Top 10 Election Quips
Richard Madan, CBC News Online | June 2

Perhaps one of the more entertaining aspects of this campaign have been the political "spin lines": you know, those quick, high-impact one-liners that politicians say.

They're supposed to be witty and media savvy – perfect quoting length for print reporters; colourful clips for broadcasters.

So, after 33 days following each party's campaign and listening to many speeches that used these often-repeated lines, I've compiled a Top 10 list.

Which one is the best, the worst, and the most creative? You be the judge.

10.

"We've brought back the endangered species of the building crane to downtown Winnipeg."

      -NDP leader Gary Doer

9.

"You can't pay off your Visa with your Mastercard."

-Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard, referring to the NDP using Hydro profits to balance budget.

8.

"Gary Doer doesn't have a revenue problem, he has a spending addiction."

      - PC Leader Stuart Murray.

7.

"Tories go from fixing elections to fixing election dates."

      - NDP press release headline, making a link between the Tory proposal of fixed election dates to the Tory party's vote-rigging scandal of 1995

6.

"Mr. Doer, you're a ribbon cutter. I'm a tax cutter."

      - PC Leader Stuart Murray

5.
"Um, I'm gonna have to call you back with that one, okay?"

      - NDP spin doctor Peter Dalla-Vicenza fielding queries from the media

4.
"The NDP says we can't afford our promises; but Liberals say 'we can't afford not to.'"

      - Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard reacting to the NDP slamming his policy platform

3.
"Coast to coast, we're taxed the most."

      - PC Leader Stuart Murray

2.
"That's the problem Enron ran into."

      - Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard on the NDP's decision to use Hydro profits to balance the budget.

1.
"It's like Paul and Mini-Me."

      - NDP Leader Gary Doer's reaction to federal Liberal Paul Martin campaigning with Inkster Liberal candidate Kevin Lameroux.
