Election Poetry
David A. Streit, Election Poet

CBC Radio's designated election poet muses weekly on the campaign trail, election issues, politics and democracy.

June 2: The Last Dispatch

...Congratulations comrades
I knew that the people would rise up
The People's Republic of Manitoba
has a nice ring to it...

May 28: Breaking the Wind

....Alas
This election is more like a silent hiss
soft as an unspoken sin
that sits stale in the elevator...

May 20: Please to Media

Wasn’t that that a party
My head is like a football
Coulda been the whiskey
All I know is

Wheatfield soul was on heavy rotation
all the popular people were there
it was an “in the know”
kinda night...

May 16: Northern Response

Perimeter or Provincial:
An election question
Or is it an ailment?...

May 5: Cruisin' 2003

Okay listen:
Gary made it official, everyone knows
Like no one, who would claim to know anything
Didn’t see this coming from a quarter mile away...

About The Poet

Dave Streit was born and raised in The Pas, Manitoba. He moved west at eighteen, working for two years on a steel gang for C.P. Rail before coming to the conclusion that writing is better for the back.

Dave is currently kicking around Winnipeg, getting educated indirectly through the University of Winnipeg and the characters he now serves coffee with in the Exchange District.
