"It is thrilling to have RWB and Moulin Rouge - The Ballet
recognized through this immediate and larger than life medium," said André Lewis, artistic director of Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
"Moulin Rouge - The Ballet
has been one of our greatest successes as a company and we hope that the release of this film will continue to move people in the way the live performance continues to do wherever we tour."
The ballet, choreographed by Jorden Morris, has been seen by more than 100,000 people across North America so far. The story takes place in turn-of-the-century Paris and follows a young dancer looking for fame and fortune in the city of lights and the fledgling artist she meets. The high energy cancan dancing, exquisite costumes and vibrant set make for a visual spectacle.
The producers have engaged award-winning directors Pierre & François Lamoureux of Cinemusica for the project. They specialize in concert and performing arts films.
The movie will premiere in Cineplex Entertainment theatres, as part of their Front Row Centre Events series, in early 2014.
