"It's a chance to see who will shine and who should keep their day job!"
—Hope McIntyre, Artistic Director
Winnipeg's Big Daddy Tazz is the host of
So You Think You Can Act. Local celebrities have been paired up with a local actor and they've had one rehearsal with director Cairn Moore. So the stakes are high.
So You Think You Can Act is a fundraiser put on by
Sarasvàti Productions that's sure to be a lot of fun for folks on stage and in the audience.
SCENE asked Artistic Director Hope McIntyre to give us five fast reasons to show up for So You Think You Can Act:1. It's a chance to see who will shine and who should keep their day job! Folks like Randall King, Sylvia Kuzyk, Howard Mandshein, Al Simmons and Judy Wasylycia-Leis will be on stage performing scenes from a great collection of plays.
In the vein of reality TV judges, local theatre judges will each channel their inner Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, or Mary Murphy. Although the judges will provide input, it will be the audience who chooses the winner.
2. Love Gone Wrong! Since the event takes place two days after
Valentine's Day, the theme is Love Gone Wrong. Many will be able to relate
to the scenes that explore bad relationships, unrequited love and heart
break. All the pieces are comedies that will have the audience laughing
out loud.
3. Support local theatre! Sarasvàti Productions is dedicated to using theatre to inspire dialogue and promote positive change in the community. Monies raised from the event will support upcoming productions including the company's
International Women's Week Cabaret of Monologues in March, their world premiere of
EDEN,
FemFest and upcoming school tours.
4. People can win raffle prizes! Arts companies and local businesses have donated an amazing array of raffle prizes. With thousands of dollars in prizes to be won, audiences will go home very happy!
5. Fun fun fun! The evening will be packed full of fun and entertainment. With Big Daddy Tazz as host, you know there will be lots of laughter. The scenes are all hilarious and the winner will be awarded a trophy with an Oscar on top!
