William Shatner with Rheanna Melnick (Jon McPhail)
Boldly going where no baker has gone before!
Winnipeg is abuzz in anticipation of William Shatner's arrival on Oct. 25th for his show, How Time Flies: An Evening with William Shatner at Centennial Concert Hall - and then for Comic Con on Sunday at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
A couple of Winnipeg bakers are cooking up an original - and tasty - way to welcome this interstellar superstar.
Jon McPhail and Rheanna Melnick are co-owners of Johnnies Sticky Buns, a boutique bakery on Portage Ave. They decided to create a new sticky bun in Willam Shatner's honour and Shatner himself was in on the design of the "Shat Bun."
SCENE was curious about how the collaboration came about. Here's their exchange:
Jon and Rheanna to William Shatner's agent:
We are bakers in Winnipeg MB Canada who have been asked to make a William Shatner inspired Cinnamon Bun. We would like to know if Mr. Shatner has any dietary restrictions, favorite food, or flavours that could help us in this endeavour.
As you know, Mr. Shatner will be in Winnipeg for his latest tour on October 25th, and any help you could provide for our Sticky Bun creation would be most appreciated.
Jon & Rheanna
William Shatner to Jon and Rheanna:
Peanut butter could be interesting. Another possibility would be a hint of cherry sweetness in the center. And if you really want to be extravagant, try some marzipan.
Jon and Rheanna to Bill:
Thank you so much for the quick reply!
We will be making your sticky bun the week of Tuesday October 25th to Saturday October 29th. We would love to get some of these buns in your hands!
We realise that you are very busy while in town. If you are un-able to visit our little bun shop, it is possible to drop off a box backstage at the Centennial Concert hall. Attached are photos of the last time we met - I doubt you'll remember us!
