Watch Winnipeg's CRUMBS give SCENE some toasty improv
Wednesday September 21, 2011
Winnipeg's own CRUMBS -- which is the freestyle comedic team of Stephen Sim and Lee White -- stopped by SCENE to give us a little preview of what will be in store during this week's Winnipeg if... Improv Festival.
Thanks to our SCENE followers on facebook, we had some quality suggestions for the improvisational duo to create a bit about. This is what Stephen and Lee came up with for the subject of "burnt toast."
On Thursday, Sept 22nd at 8 p.m. you can catch The Dungeons & Dragons Improv Show! It features local improvisers presenting their D & D themed show (replete with giant 20-sided dice, costumes and maybe blood) that recently received rave Fringe Festival reviews.
Friday, Sept 23rd at 8 p.m. will be The Festival Ensemble Show! The show will feature the gold standard of Winnipeg Improv., that being Outside Joke and CRUMBS along with Caitlin Curtis and Fraz Wiest. Accompanying them (or maybe doing battle with them?) will be Atlanta's own Dad's Garage, Toronto's Kayla Lorette, Dave Morris of Victoria and Edmonton's Rapid Fire Theatre.
Later that night at 11 p.m.The Late Night Improv Jam Show is on. All the improvisational players will be throwing down hard at this one as the later time slot will allow for, dare we say, more risque material?
The Festival then wraps up on Saturday, Sept 24th at 8 p.m. with Dad's Garage's Samurai Davis Jr. & Dim Sum's Super Mega Happy Fun Time Improv Show.Based upon the often outrageous premises of Japanese game shows, Super Mega Happy Fun Time will feature two opposing teams competing over multiple improvisational rounds with the losers facing messy, degrading punishments.
