Artists in the Interlake are inviting visitors to the 12th annual WAVE Interlake Artists' Studio Tour on June 8 and 9. It's a self-guided tour through the area featuring studios of over 40 artists.
This year's slogan is, appropriately, "get drenched in art". It's a chance to meet the artists in person, to see - and purchase - stunning, colourful works of art, often inspired by the beautiful surroundings of Lake Winnipeg.
The artists work in everything from ceramics, to jewelry, to painting to fabric art.
Artist Heidi Hunter (Jean Hunter)
Heidi Hunter is a board member and one of the organizers of the event. She says the area is a hotbed of artists and that she personally finds the landscape hugely inspirational.
The event has grown in leaps and bounds. Hunter says in the first year that she participated, around 40 people came to her studio.
Last year a whopping 300 turned up. She says there's a real vibe and the whole area is teeming with art and nature lovers.
Many artists will offer activities in their studios this year for the first time and the Gimli Art Club will host a special hands-on event on Saturday, 11:00 - 1:00, featuring a mural to which everyone can contribute.Brochures are available at McNally Robinson Booksellers, Travel Manitoba and Tergesen's in Gimli. So grab a map, hit the road, soak in the landscape and exquisite art of our rural artists.
The WAVE Interlake Artists' Studio Tour takes place June 8 and 9.
