Jordan Van Sewell is a Winnipeg ceramic artist known for his sculptures that reflect reality in a quirky, delightful way.
His latest show Dreams opens at Prairie Ink Restaurant in McNally Robinson Booksellers on Monday December 3. The pieces in this exhibit play on the fact that we all have dreams.
SCENE asked Van Sewell to share some of these latest works with us and to describe one in detail:
A HOT ONE (seen above) has been drawn up by the devil himself. This "bath" series is ongoing in my work and has included many different characters from my repertoire (see" Oil Bath" in show ). In this instance we see the devil has found himself in someone else's bath tub as evidenced by the pearly gates outside of the window.
We're not in the underworld anymore yet there's his faithful hound Cerberus guarding the chamber. There are attachable wings hung from a nail on the wall and skull-adorned slippers at the ready. This is not the footwear of the cloven hoofed lord of Hades. A false devil?
