Many a tale has been told around the topic of fishing. Now fishing tales come to life in a series of documentary films.
And when Winnipeg composer and videographer Greg Lowe teams up with writer Jake MacDonald the result has a lot of panache.
The artistic team produced five 12-minute videos for the Northern Ontario Sport Fishing Centre in Sioux Narrows. And the videos will premiere at the grand opening of the centre on June 21.
The new facility overlooks the public docks where many fishermen and boating enthusiasts have launched their boats and headed out onto beautiful Lake of the Woods.
'"The view from this windowed building is particularly memorable at 6:30 in the morning as the boats fill the small bay on day one of the Bassin' For Bucks Tournament," enthuses Lowe.
The video series covers five fish species: bass, Northern Pike, walleye (known in Manitoba as pickerel), Lake Trout and muskie.
MacDonald and Lowe both have a long history in the Lake of the Woods area, so for them this project was a labour of love. MacDonald serves as narrator and Lowe not only shot and edited the videos, he also composed and produced the soundtrack.
Lowe remarks, "This is a great opportunity to showcase experienced fishing guides in the area while documenting the healthy condition of this ecosystem, and hopefully contributing to it's long term stability.
"All fishermen are invested in keeping fish habitat healthy for themselves and future generations."
