Wings to Fly - Claire (Rodney Braun)
The art of photography and the art of body tattooing come together in an exhibit that will touch your heart and change your perceptions.
Winnipeg photographer Rodney Braun has collaborated with Winnipeg tattoo artist Kelly Mcrae to create a unique show that runs until Thursday December 8 at the Exchange Community Gallery in Winnipeg.
SCENE asked two of the subjects to share their stories:
Wings to Fly - Claire
In my marriage, I was treated badly--I was emotionally and physically abused. When I finally
woke up and realized I deserved better, I found a great friend (who later became more than a friend) in Kelly, who helped me move on with my life.
Kelly helped me design my back piece which represents me; I have broken, tattered wings that have allowed me to fly away from all the pain and sadness and move on to the life I have now. I can show my kids what a strong woman is by who I have become now!!!!
I have continued my tattoos onto the front and pretty much all over me as my journey has continued. I have tattoos for each of my kids and for Kelly.
Each of my tattoos has helped me overcome some of the darkest times in my life when the pain of being alive was too much. It was sometimes almost a way to try and forget about the pain that I was going through!!
I will continue with my life and my tattoo journey, and know that I'm such a strong person
each time I look at my tattoos!
Believe - Michael Ford
Life is amazing! But let's face it, it isn't always easy.
My tattoo is a symbol of hope, a permanent reminder. A reminder to never give up, and
always Believe.
Believe in your faith, Believe in your family, Believe in your dreams, and most of all Believe in yourself.
No matter how bad things get, no matter how much life gets you down--just like the song says: "Don't Stop Believin'...".
