It's no secret that Islam and Muslims don't often have the best image in the public's eye,
particularly after the events of 9/11.
Photojournalist Donna DiDomenico is a freelance photographer based in New York City who loves to travel and to tell stories. She is is not Muslim herself. But she wanted to dispel negative myths about Muslims and tell their story through photographs.
So she travelled around the globe, immersing herself in different communities outside the Middle East, learning about how Islam spread, meeting the people and capturing images of them as proof that they are not as they are often portrayed in the media.
The result is a book called Islam Through My Eyes, offering a sweeping portrait of Muslims throughout the world in everyday life. Donna DiDomenico will present her book and photos at the Winnipeg Central Mosque on Thursday, September 29th.
