Tina Keeper as Aura Sphere (Allen Fraser)
The APTN drama Cashing In exposes the high-stakes, winner-takes-all world of First Nations gaming. This half-hour drama is set on the fictional Stonewalker First Nation in southern Manitoba. And houses some very familiar faces.
You may recall Tina Keeper in her real life role as a Member of Parliament or from her days on North of 60. She serves dual roles on this made-in-Manitoba series. Tina is a producer and has a recurring role as Aura Sphere.
On the day of the launch of season 3, Tina answered some of SCENE's quick questions.
What do you like better being a producer or an actor on Cashing In?
Being a producer
Because you participate in all the aspects of the production, working with all the creative aspects and individuals. It's very rewarding.
You've shot in a lot of different locations in Canada, how does it compare to shooting in Winnipeg?
Winnipeg, as a city, definitely has the feel of a town rather than a city, in that you meet people on set and you are going to be one or two degrees of separation from each other. The stories that emerge in those discussions are part of the charm and fun of being from a small city/big town like Winnipeg.
Tell us one set story that could only uniquely happen in Manitoba.
We were location scouting in the Lake Winnipeg area and we stopped at a local gas station in one of the towns up highway 9 and, in 10 minutes, I ran into so many people that i knew - friends of my parents, a politician and a United Church minister that were all from different locations in the province!
What can the audience expect in the new season?
The audience will get to know a bit more about the characters' personal lives - their pasts and their desires fuel the season!
Why should people tune in to Cashing In?
Cashing In has a great cast (and great music, i may add)! The actors are the best, and this season we have riveting twists and turns on the road to Northbeach Casino at Stonewalker First Nations!
