Journey #2, Doug Melnyk 2011, 4 x 6 inches, collage and mixed media (Doug Melnyk)
Winnipeg's Doug Melnyk is an artist who works across multiple mediums. His drawings, collages and video installations have been displayed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Melynk is currently the artist in residence at the Deep Bay Artists Residency
in Wasagaming, MB. At this post he is currently creating a series of pen and pencil works which draw heavily (pun intended) on the geography, fauna and people that inhabit this stunning area of Manitoba.
Tomorrow, September 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Melnyk will be showing this series and is inviting attendees to have a hand at creating collage works. It will be a hands-on version of an art show, as people can get down with Doug and break out the glue, scissors, knives and old magazines to take part in the artistic process. (It will be like junior-high art class all over again, but this time guided by an acclaimed artist and in a cabin-on-a-lake setting.) Doug Melnyk making a collage (Larry Glawson)
