Living Flag (Downtown Victoria Business Association)
Oh Canada, you are still looking good at 144.
We felt it was our civic duty here at SCENE to make some thoroughly Canadian recommendations for tomorrow's festivities.
Check out our list below and go get your nationalism on.
Canada Day at the Forks
What's going on: The WSO is putting on a "best of" sort of performance on the Scotia Bank Stage down at the Forks.
Why you should go: JP Hoe and the Liptonians will be getting orchestral while the WSO pulls out crowd pleasing classics like the Star Wars theme, Ride of the Valkyries and Beethoven's Fifth (just to name a few).
Osborne Village Street Celebration
What's going on: Winnipeg's biggest, best (and oldest) street festival turns the village into a happening market fusing tasty eats, fabulous shopping and some terrific performances.
Why you should go: Because the list of performers is even tastier than the street food (which is saying a lot). How about Trio Bembe, JD Edwards Band, the Dust Rhinos and Rambling Dan Frechette. Oh, and did we mention it is free?
Canada Day Living Flag at the Legislative Grounds
What's going on: History is being made as Winnipegers are going to beat the pants off of Victoria when they build a living, breathing, Canadian Flag.
Why you should go: Because there will be performances and activities for the whole family (and if you show up early you'll get a free t-shirt).
Canada Day at the Manitoba Museum
What's going on: What isn't? There will be laser shows, dinosaur bones to touch, and a host of exhibits that will entice toddlers, teenagers and even grandpa.
Why should you go: because sometimes the best way to escape the repressive heat of summer is to get your science on -- plus kids who wear red and white will get in for free.
Canada Day Celebrations in Brandon
What's going on: Things are happening for the whole family down at the Keystone Centre Grounds including a parade, live music, hay rides, face painting and fireworks at dusk.
Why should you go: The Annual Duck Race -- really, need we say more?
