God's Lake Narrows house (Scott Benesiinaabandan)
Winnipeg artist Kevin Lee Burton invites you to see "reserve reality".
Kevin offers up an insider look at his home community of God's Lake Narrows. It is located 550 kms northeast of Winnipeg - and is accessible only by air or boat in the summer.
It's a multi-media project co-created with Alicia Smith with sound design by Christine Fellows.
Kevin juxtaposes exteriors with interior photographs while walking us through interesting facts and personal expression of growing up there.
Here is an excerpt:
$3.8 billion has been spent on reserve housing over the last decade and people think we're so privileged: living off the backs of everyone else in this country. In my childhood, most of us were still hauling sewage out in pails.
It's a self-guided tour on the National Film Board's Interactive storytelling site. Leave a comment and let SCENE know what you think of it!
