On Canada Day long weekend, Dauphin is once again the scene of Manitoba's largest party of the summer.
With about 40,000 people descending on the small city of 9,000, Countryfest is delivering for fans of country music, Americana, and straight up rock 'n' roll.
Superstars Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, and the Florida/Georgia Line are the main draws. While outlaw county heirs like Shooter Jennings and Justin Townes Earle are keeping it real for the dirt roads country diehards.
This volunteer driven festival is celebrating its 24th year this summer. Dedicated fans lined up for hours on both sides of Highway 10 on Wednesday and Thursday, waiting for their chance to stake their claim in the Countryfest campground.
Some of the folks in line are Countryfest lifers. Verlie Tomlinson and her crew have been camping at Countryfest nearly ever year since its inception in 1992.
"I'm here every year," Tomlinson says. "This is the best party of the year."
With forecasts clear and a lineup of international talent booked for the rest of the weekend, Tomlinson can rest assured. Dauphin's Countryfest this year will be off the chain.
