Keri Latimer and family in Trinidad (Keri Latimer)
Musician Keri Latimer will probably spend at least part of Mother's Day listening to music. But whatever ends up on the stereo also has to pass the test with her two kids.
So SCENE asked Latimer for a Playlist that helps everyone in her household get their groove on:
1. "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse
We like to sing along with this one together, I get a kick out of how my children adapt the lyrics to just about every song to fit into their understanding of the world. For instance, Hazel my daughter sings this song as, "tried to make me go to recess, I said no no no."
"Recess" by Hazel
2. "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More No More" by Washboard Hank
There are great singalong lyrics to this one, 'how in the heck can i wash my neck, if it ain't gonna rain no more'. Perfect humour for youngsters.
3. "My Favourite Things," by Rodgers and Hammerstein
Luckily my children love The Sound of Music because they are required to watch it once a
year with me. I feel a swell of nerdy pride when they ask me to put on this song.
4. "California Gurls" by Katy Perry
Since my kids have learned to put on their own CDs, this song gets maximum play, and has had choreography worked out to boot.
5. "I Feel Good" by James Brown
This will always have a place in my heart as it gets our whole family shaking our money makers like nobody's business.
