Once we got the guys and we got all together and we started playing shows we started realizing that things just kept on happening and the ceiling that we were looking for...still hasn't come.

Winnipeg pop/rock/folk band The Treble got started when the members were still in in high school."It
was really hap-hazard," says lead singer Mark Brusegard. "Colin McTavish
the piano player and I went to school together. We weren't even friends.
There was a music competition for songwriting. We got paired together
and it turned out we both had a knack for songwriting."
Now these five like-minded players have enjoyed a quick rise to success. On April 20th, Brusegard joins CBC's SCENE on Air
host Ismaila Alfa in studio to talk about the band's whirlwind year.
"Once we got the guys all together and we started playing shows we
started realizing that things just kept on happening and the ceiling
that we were looking for...still hasn't come," he explains.
It doesn't hurt that The Treble got connected early on with well known songwriter/producer Chris Burke-Gaffney. "He ended up being a really good soundboard," Brusegard says. "He's got so much experience. It's really great to work with somebody like him. He's had hits on the radio, he's got awards all over the place. He's got a really great opinion on a lot of things."
Less than a year ago, The Treble performed at a showcase in Los Angeles and through the contacts they made there, they ended up signing with The Agency Group (Weakerthans, Barenaked Ladies).
"We're all very busy," Brusegard admits. "A lot of us have full or part time jobs. We're just trying to do as much as we can with this. So having other people helping us out who really know what they're doing is a godsend."
The Treble EP release for Northern Lights is on Monday April 22 at 8 p.m. at the West End Cultural Centre. Before then, catch lead singer Mark Brusegard on SCENE on Air with host Ismaila Alfa on
Saturday April 20. The show airs every
from 5 - 6
p.m. on CBC Radio One, 89.3 FM/990 AM/97.9 FM in Brandon.
