..these were wonderful moments that had nothing to do with presents. It had everything to do with people and places.
—JP Hoe, singer/songwriter
We all like Christmas but some people are seriously passionate about the
season and singer/songwriter JP Hoe is one of those diehard Christmas
He likes Christmas SO much he is planning a three night
stretch of his annual JP Hoe Hoe Hoe Holiday Show. It's his way (as
he says) of spreading holiday joy.
Hoe remembers his very first
holiday show. "I think it was at the King's Head Pub and I was just
starting out. I didn't have any shows in December and wanted to do
something. I thought okay I love Christmas, I love the holidays, I wanna
capitalize on my last name for marketing purposes. And it just seemed
like a really good idea."
Fast forward nine years, Hoe is putting on three shows, two of which are sold out. He's feverishly finishing charts for the other musicians, he's writing new Christmas songs, and each year he invites special guests.
Hoe's love for the holiday season goes back to his childhood. "Between childhood and now I have these strong emotional connections to moments from Christmas, whether that was being at the lake where we cleared off the ice to make a rink, or my uncles would cut down Charlie Brown trees, these were wonderful moments that had nothing to do with presents. It had everything to do with people and places."
The JP Hoe Hoe Hoe Holiday Show takes place Thursday - Saturday, December 13 - 15 at the Park Theatre. Hear JP Hoe on SCENE on Air with host Ismaila Alfa on SCENE On Air on December 8. The show airs every Saturday from 5 - 6 p.m. on CBC Radio One, 89.3 FM/990 AM/97.9 FM in Brandon.
