On SCENE on Air this weekend, host Ismaila Alfa
invites singer/songwriter Dan Frechette
into Studio 14 to talk about his new album. It's called A Tease Done Bluegrass
and it's Frechette's 10th album in 2012. And yes, you read that correctly.
All year, Frechette has been recording albums featuring different styles. This one focuses on '80s cover tunes done in a bluegrass style."I'm a big fan. I grew up with that stuff," Frechette explains. "It's been in dentist's offices for the past 20 years too so we're pretty inundated with folks like Phil Collins...I didn't even have to look up the lyrics for half the songs!"
Also on the show, The Lytics
have a new album and video out.
And Manitoban artists are showcasing this weekend at the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals Conference
- folks like Matt Epp
, JP Hoe
, Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers
and many more.Where the Wild Things Are
opened at MTYP this week and you'll hear music by a Winnipeg band that was also inspired by the Maurice Sendak classic.
Tune in to find out which Manitoba artists are on Peter Mansbridge
's playlist, and (speaking of '80's songs) Jann Arden
's too.Don't miss SCENE on Air every Saturday from 5 - 6 p.m. on CBC Radio One, 89.3 FM/990 AM/97.9 FM in Brandon.
