These days, in our prime years of living, we eat healthy, so we starve on the road because there's nothing healthy to eat!
—Bruthers of Different Muthers
Bruthers of Different Muthers (BODM)
are a hard-rock outfit who infuse a heavy guitar sound with their
aboriginal roots. The result is some truly original tracks -- think early grunge at a pow wow -- that are leaving their mark on Canada's hard-rock landscape.
Their debut release, 2011's Speakers of Tomorrow, has already scored the award for best rock CD at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards. Now Bruthers of Different of Muthers head to the Junos this weekend, having been nominated for aboriginal album of the year.
As part of our ongoing series on Juno nominated Manitoba acts, SCENE has asked BODM to tell us about their tour van etiquette.
Who gets the front seat and how do you decide?
Killah (guitarist and composer) always drives and co-pilot is whoever want to choose the music for the ride, until we get sick of their taste and someone else needs to take over.
To ask or not to ask for directions?
Google maps is a wonderful thing! We are a Mac/Apple happy band! Unless there is no data, then we are screwed!
What's your favourite road food?
These days, in our prime years of living, we eat healthy, so we starve on the road because there's nothing healthy to eat! But we can't lie, once in a while we break down and must have a McRib and a shake!
Who's in charge of giving the order at the drive through window?
Killah is always at the helm, so he needs to organize the chaos at the order window and just orders everyone black coffees with all the fixins on the side!
What's your luggage limit?
One bag and one instrument each, extra effects for the guitar player and only one bag for those lucky drummers who are usually back-lined at the shows!
Top three songs/bands that get played in the van?
Right now its: "Show Me How To Live" by Audioslave, "Level" by the Racounteurs, and "Rope" by the Foo Fighters.
What's one thing you can't live without on the road?
Our iPhones! and a cheesy movie or two.
What's the best tour van outfit?
Sweatpants or shorts and a hoody, so you can cover your face and sleep!
Bruthers of Different Muthers will be attending the Junos and playing JUNOfest on Friday, March 30 at Cafe Dekcuf in Ottawa.
