Flo and Prairie Soul Collective perform on Information Radio Dec. 9 (Tonya Randell)
CBC Winnipeg is devoting the whole day, December 9th, to raising funds for Winnipeg Harvest. Last year CBC listeners donated more than $120,000 to the food bank. This year we're hoping to better that figure.
It's a day of music, a day of stories, a day of giving.
SCENE asked some of the musicians performing on Information Radio to share a story of the gift that changed their lives.
Here's singer Flo's story:
Gift: a microphone.
It was like it foreshadowed the future for me. When I received it, I had no idea how much it would impact my life, how much I would use it. What a blessing in disguise that it has been for me! I truly do believe that nothing is a coincidence and everything happens for a purpose!
Flo (Florence Oramasionwu) performs between 7:00 and 8:30 on Information Radio as part of Prairie Soul Collective, a gospel-esque group put together just for this occasion. She'll be joined by Joe Curtis on vocals and guitar and Heulwen Zilla Jones on vocals.
Cassandra Consiglio sings with Prodigy:
My great-grandmother gave me her engagement ring before she passed away! This ring is an inspiration for me to follow my dreams and work hard to achieve my goals. When I look at the ring I think of my great grandmother and it makes me dig deep. I feel her with me giving me the strength I need to push myself. I miss her but I know she is with me at all times.
Prodigy is the singing group from Miles Macdonell Collegiate. They'll perform on Information Radio between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m.
Tune in to CBC Radio One all day for special programming. Radio Noon presents the Spirits Call Choir. Up to Speed features performances by James Struthers, Jaylene Johnson and Errol Ranville.
