Vince Fontaine, Best Instrumental Nominee (SK Media)
As the producer of a weekly Aboriginal music podcast on CBC Radio 3, it is my favourite time of year. Award season in Indian Country! It's a very busy month with the ImagineNative Film and Media Arts Festival in Toronto, the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in Winnipeg, and the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Toronto.
And before the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards hand out their hardware on November 18th, the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards will hand theirs out in Winnipeg.
The Toronto show, known in the community as the CAMAs, announced their nominees today. And making the short-list are three Manitobans. The Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards received more than 300 entries from across Canada. The awards are juried by some 90 jurors from both the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal music industry.
Meanwhile, the accounting firm of MNP is busy tallying up the votes for the APCMAs. These awards are handed out based on the number of votes they receive from the public.
And keep your fingers crossed two of the shows I produced last year Young and UnReserved and Indian Summer: Billy Joe Green Sings the Residential Blues are nominated for an ImagineNative award this weekend.
The only question left with all these award shows is: What am I going to wear?
