Wouldn't you like to be a mooner, too?
The 10th annual Harvest Moon Festival celebrates culture, the harvest and local food. Really, it's as much about the earth and its bounty as it is about the music. The festival takes place on the weekend closest to the harvest moon when the harvest is in full swing. And in its rural setting of Clearwater, Manitoba, surrounded by farmland, there is no doubt about the importance of the earth.
As for the food, the gettin's good. Everything is fresh, organic and locally sourced. Mooners, as festival goers are affectionately called, have the choice of a farmer's market, the Clearwater Country Market as well as offerings from a variety of restaurants.
Local farmers, artisans and craftspeople will also be on hand, so in between musical acts mooners can take in some workshops offering instruction in everything from documentary film making to creating crazy instruments. You can learn about organic farming practices and even visit a local farm.
All in all, it's a true celebration of the important things in life: music, creativity and the goodness of the earth.
