Today Musicnet launches it's 17th season of musical events.
Musicnet is a one-stop shopping calendar that provides a colour coded, chronological listing of musical events in Winnipeg. It came about in 1994 to promote all forms of live music, especially classical, in the city. Co-founders Harry Strub of Virtuosi Concerts, remembers what instigated the calendar.
"We wanted to make it easy for music-lovers to know what was going on in Winnipeg 's diverse classical music world, so that they could discover new musical experiences simply by checking a single document on their home bulletin board, or on the Musicnet website."
Participating groups have grown to include Camerata Nova, Canzona, GroundSwell, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Manitoba Opera, The Musical Offering, Prairie Voices,Virtuosi Concerts, The Winnipeg Chamber Music Society, Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, The Winnipeg Singers, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and The Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg.
Musicnet provides concertgoers around the city with the calendar, subscriber reward cards and a website featuring updates to the events calendar and links to member organization websites.
The group was awarded the first Manitoba Arts Council Foundation Innovations Award in 1998 and receives ongoing support from the Winnipeg Foundation and the Manitoba Arts Council.
