Nathan (myspace)
Trans Am was one of the best known muscle cars of the late 1960's and early '70's and this song, evokes the feeling one might get riding around in it on a summer day. Keri Latimer sings "Trans Am, take me away, doesn't have to be far, skirting the town, just circle around, let's go fast"
Marti Sarbit & Rusty Matyas (myspace)
Imaginary Cities' Hummingbird feels like a classic summer pop song you'd hear on the radio back in the 1960's or 70's. Although it's about a person who needs to see life differently, the imagery of a hummingbird in the air feels like a snapshot of summer.
BTO (youtube)
BTO's music is anthemic and Rolling Down the Highway is one of those songs that speaks to getting in your car and just going. The chorus is "Let it roll, down the highway"
Don Amero (Don Amero)
Don Amero's song My Lovely puts you right in the driver's seat driving with your loved one and enjoying the moment. Don writes "Sun is going down, driving back from your parent's cabin, on the open road"
Foster Martin Band (Band website)
Back Roads of Summer by the Foster Martin Band is the perfect summer song. It has the tempo, it's about being young, carefree, cars, cruisin' and love. It even mentions going to the Half Moon drive-in and rolling down highway 59.
D. Rangers (myspace)
My Little Runaway is a cover song by the D. Rangers originally recorded by Del Shannon. In the hands of the D. Rangers it's got that old raw rock & roll feel that reminds you of dancing at the community centre in the summer.
The Bells (Last.FM)
Manitoban Rick Neufeld wrote his song Moody Manitoba Morning years ago. It was recorded by the Montreal band The Bells who had a hit with it, but everyone who heard the song could visualize what Neufeld was talking about when it came to a moody Manitoba morning.
Doc Walker (myspace)
Speed of Life by Doc Walker captures the those moments in our lives that go by much too quickly. The song says "So hold on tight, don't let go, you know this life is one big show, so take it in"......good advice for anytime of the year, but especially summer.
Weakerthans (myspace)
The Weakerthans are masters at creating mind pictures. Sun In An Empty Room evokes the image of the sun's rays shining in where darkness usually reigns.
Royal Canoe (myspace)
Dear June by Royal Canoe comes to SCENE from one of our on-line users. It's a song that has a floating quality to it much like summer clouds in the sky.
