Marijosee (Tyler Funk)
Mariejosee Clement is a bundle of musical energy.
She was a member of the all female percussion group Insisto and over the last few years she's concentrated on singing and composing. Now she is stepping out on her own, with a brand new EP Rebondir.
Marijosee is totally comfortable performing in French or English and her songs reflect her Franco-Manitoban experience.
SCENE asked Marijosee what it means to be a franco-manitobain artist.
What is biggest difference for you performing in French as opposed to English?
It simply feels like home in French..like I'm playing for family.
What's one thing that is easier to express in song in English?
Actually I think the word love in English songs is less cheesy. ;) HA.
What's one thing that is best to express in French, in song?
Anything I don't want my husband to understand. HA!
What's your biggest musical influence of all?
My parents. they used to force us to sing and listen to French music and now my first choice on my IPod is my French playlist.
How does the local French community support your work?
Wow, I wouldn't be around without the local French community. The local radio stations welcome every opportunity to have me in the studio and they keep playing the tunes. The local newspapers will drive out to a studio in St.Adolphe to live the moment with me.
Music lovers personally send me e-mails giving me heads up on upcoming music opportunities.who does that. The French community is awesome.
Why did you call the album Rebondir (Bouncing)?
I'm bouncing back because winter is so dreadful. Everything around me can sleep for a while, my drums, my music composition but the only thing that will never die is my voice.
Someone once told me that I must not be doing much music because of my day job and this song reassures me that no matter what I will never stop singing.
