The weekend is upon us, which means it's just the right time to unveil our Top 5 picks for things to fill the next two days with.
Number 5 - The Mark of Zorro
Manitoba Theatre for Young People welcomes Scotland's Visible Fictions and their production of everyone's favourite swashbuckling man in black. The Mark of Zorro runs through March 9.
Number 4 - Lebowskipalooza 2013
People really, really love Jeff Bridges as The Dude in this Coen brothers movie. And fans of the film will be gathering for a costume contest and screening of The Big Lebowski on March 2 at the Garrick. It's Lebowskipalooza 2013 - bathrobes welcome.
Number 3 - Growing Local conference
You can watch a movie called How to Make a Farm, learn to brew your own kombucha, find out about urban gardening and take in a range of workshops and guest speakers at the Growing Local conference. Event runs March 1-2 at the Marlborough Hotel.
Number 2 - Clearwater cabin fundraiser
The Harvest Moon Society is fundraising to build cabins in Clearwater, Manitoba. The cabins have been designed by University of Manitoba architecture students and will be rented out to Harvest Moon Festival goers or for workshops or retreats. Cabins will be partly built out of reclaimed lumber from recent deconstruction projects in Clearwater (above).
On March 1 at the Unitarian Church at 640 Wellington Crescent, $10 gets you performances from Ridley Bent, Andrina Turenne of Chic Gamine, T.J. Blair and Ida Sawabe. Doors at 7 p.m.
Number 1 - Martha Wainwright
Presented by Jazz Winnipeg, Martha Wainwright will perform at the West End Cultural Centre on March 2. She is the daughter of folk music icons Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, sister of Rufus Wainwright and she more than holds her own in that distinguished musical company. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Show get underway at 8 p.m.
