Although the plot is nearly non-existent, the all-local troupe of actors play their roles with infectious enthusiasm and humour.
Light, sweet and breezy, Strange Day at the Fringe
isn't going to top anyone's "must see" list, but it makes for a pleasant diversion from more challenging Fringe fare.
Leading a talented cast of eight, local actors Richelle Starke and Chris Reid play Rachel and Harry, a young Winnipeg couple that have very different views on the Fringe.
The stakes here are the definition of low: after convincing her husband to attend their neighbour's dance show, Rachel and Harry head to Old Market Square, where their "strange day" begins.
As they wait for the show to begin, the couple encounter a cast of quirky characters that - you guessed it - end up teaching them a lesson about what the Fringe is all about.
Although the plot is nearly non-existent, the all-local troupe of actors play their roles with infectious enthusiasm and humour. And while a clichéd last-minute twist had this reviewer's eyes rolling, I still enjoyed this not-so-strange, completely sweet evening at the Fringe.
