If you're looking for something "avec musique" at the Fringe, make a rendezvous with The Sparrow and the Mouse
In this solo show, Melanie Gall leads us through the life of famous French diva Edith Piaf, from the point of view of her half-sister and loyal sidekick, Simone Berteaut.
Gall is a terrific storyteller and oh la la, she's got some captivating, funny and touching stories to tell about Piaf and the colorful people in her early life. According to legend, Piaf was born outside a police station on a policeman's cloak. She grew up in a brothel where her grandmother worked as a cook for "les dames de la nuit"... and then things got even more interesting.
As the story unfolds, Gall weaves in songs from Piaf's repertoire. They're mostly en francais, but you don't need a translator to enjoy the performance of this talented chanteuse. She got a well-deserved standing ovation at Saturday's show. The Sparrow and the Mouse
