A show that is much like its title - poetic, if somewhat confounding.
Cousins Ellen Reesor and Elsa Reesor-Taylor have crafted a show that is much like its title - poetic, if somewhat confounding.
Using poetry, fable, and music, the two explore what it is to be a young woman in today's world. That's a tall order, though, and Of the Stars and the Apples
' biggest issue is that it's often unclear on what point it's trying to make.
There is, though, much to recommend it. There's a gentle, lyrical poetry in Reesor-Taylor's script. Both women - relative newcomers to the stage - deliver confident, strong performances. They also perform some hauntingly pretty musical numbers.
Following the threads of the fantastical tales they weave can be a challenge, however. And if fairies, pixies, and folk music aren't your thing, this is not a show for you.
Patience is rewarded, though, as they wrap with a conclusion that ties together many of their disparate ideas, and reminds us that "there is magic within all of us."
