"MixTape" commands your attention with small, poignant movements.
Sometimes, when you're encouraged to focus on tiny movements, they can be quite captivating. That's exactly what physical theatre duo Matt Walley and Angela Horchem specialize in.
In their charming family show MixTape
, clown-faced Walley rolls a steamer trunk onto the stage and gradually performs a series of poignant scenes using small props like a plant and a tin cup. Even when he's just sitting cross-legged on a red stool, losing control of one foot, Walley commands attention.
Horchem emerges from the trunk, too, to complement Walley's slow-but-sure routine with some more frenetic moves, including an expert turn as a dancing housecleaner.MixTape
's most memorable moments, however, come from the audience. When Walley hands crowd members his magical clown hat and cranks up some pop tunes, it's fun to see how people react.MixTape
can be appreciated by the child in all of us but it's definitely aimed at kids. A little girl in the front row of the first show sat up and smiled the whole time. You will, too.
