Company: Lorax Improv, Vancouver, BC
Venue: 21 - Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre
A show that slams its foot on the pedal, damns the torpedos, and takes only the most occasional of looks in the rearview before lurching into parts unknown.
This energetic and amicable improv duo from Vancouver/Edmonton were so excited to come to Winnipeg that they got a speeding ticket on the way.
This is apt, considering that Lorax
is a show that slams its foot on the pedal, damns the torpedoes, and takes only the most occasional of looks in the rearview before lurching into parts unknown.Lorax
needs only one suggestion to get the ball rolling. On this night the call of "dentist office" was plied and stretched into a rambling series of scenes involving child prodigies, mango smugglers, butt-sniffing mountain climbers, and a cabana boy who must go an extra mile for a "dip & tip".
Ben and Tim are likeable dudes, and they're good at their craft. Plot takes a backseat in this show, but the pair's willingness to contort themselves into pretzel-like positions and their ability to use voice and physicality to create compelling characters makes it a winner.
Clocking in at around 45 minutes and situated just steps from the outdoor stage, Lorax
is a great show for Fringers in need of a quick, fun breather between heavier shows. An extra fiver will even get you a smooch from the cast!
