Slow down guys – let your characters spread their freak-wings a bit. Take an awkward pause now and then.
—Christopher Read
These guys have the kind of natural comedic ability that gets them a long way and they definitely generated some laughs with the crowd when I saw them.
They do a lot of the kinds of games that require one of the two Horrible Friends to figure out some piece of information which has been collected from the audience, or complete some task - such as speaking only in questions.
While these kinds of improv games can be amusing, the danger is that they can sometimes make the show less about creating interesting worlds filled with hilarious characters - and more about the actors trying to get their little job done. This is what I saw happening with the Horrible Friends show I took in.
The last game they play is a good one. They act out a fake summary of randomly chosen show from this year's Fringe. But Friday's show had them summarizing The Progressive Polygamists, and that involved them barking out a bunch of less than wow-worthy incest jokes without really completing a proper scene. Slow down guys - let your characters spread their freak-wings a bit. Take an awkward pause now and then. God lives in the pauses.
